There’s a term I’ve read about recently called “The Law of Effection” (yes effection, not affection) in a book titled The Millionaire Fast Lane. It states:
“The more lives you affect in an entity you control, in scale and/or magnitude, the richer you will become”
I feel that this has term a lot more substance than all the tired platitudes you read from self-help gurus and most things on r/GetMotivated. It’s simple but has endless value if you question your actions against it when starting a new endeavor for anything from a side business, a website, or a new company.
Essentially, before starting down a path in the hopes of striking it big, ask yourself if this endeavor will follow the Law of Effection in scale, magnitude or both! Thankfully, the rise of the internet has made effection exponentially easier. Never before has the barrier for entry to the world’s eyes been lower than it is now (for better or worse).
For example, while I maintain this blog for many reasons, the main ones are to help market myself and use my skills and knowledge to aid others. Both of these are taking advantage of the internet’s inherit ability to potentially reach millions for little to no cost.
Essentially, as long as you focus on affecting many instead of simply making as much as possible, you’ll likely find yourself at a point where turning whatever brand you create into monetary value will be a simple, if not natural evolution. You do have to provide value to others in the process, but value is really one of the essential requirements to getting your brand to affect many. If what you create has value and is put on a platform that allows it to reach others, I think it will be difficult to not find success.
If you’ve, like many, ever wondered where to start on a journey to financial or career success, first focus on the Law of Effection and the rest will follow.
