Purchasing professional software can be stressful and expensive. Whether you need it to meet your design goals, deadlines or both, the process can be a pain, especially if you’re the only person involved in making a decision. A part of this can be due to the price tags on professional software. Continuing support fees, tiers of functionality, etc. can all lead to prices tags easily into the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars!
On the bright side, many of these companies have sales representatives that can authorize discounts through negotiation of things like reduction of functionality and custom packages. They are also almost guaranteed to have quotas that need to be filled, quotas that are likely due at the end of the year.
If you find yourself in the situation I just described, I can say from firsthand experience that the best time to negotiate these deals is right now! Right now as in around December. Sales reps are trying to pad their numbers around this time and like many other industries, will likely offer big discounts for people willing to close before the end of the year.
While it may be too late to catch a fire sale before the end of 2019, there’s always next year. If you can hold off until then, cross shop through the year and be able negotiate with competing offers, you’ll likely come out way ahead compared to buying at any other time of the year!
